Halloween fun fundraiser

Dear Staff, Pupil, Parent and Carer,

On Friday of this week (30 October) our Pupil Voice is inviting all pupils and staff to dress for Halloween. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

Judging criteria will include:
1.       Wackiness
2.       Scariness and
3.       Creativity.

In addition to a ‘bucket shake’, BENE – our official pupil fundraising group - will also hold a bake sale on a Halloween theme in the forum at morning break. All proceeds will  go to supporting Syrian Refugees.

Thank you for your support in anticipation of what will be a fun packed morning at Gillespie’s.

National Poetry Day

To mark national poetry day on Thursday 8 October I particularly like this poem.

UNITY
I dreamed I stood in a studio
And watched two sculptors there,
The clay they used was a young child's mind
And they finished it with care.
One was a teacher; the tools he used
Were books and music and art;
One a parent with a guiding hand
And a gentle and loving heart.
Day after day the teacher toiled
With a touch that was deft and sure
While the parent laboured by his side
And polished and smoothed it o'er.
And when at last their task was done
They were proud of what they had wrought,
For the things they had moulded into the child
Could neither be sold nor bought
And each agreed he would have failed
If he had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school
And behind the teacher, the home.

Young writer of the year

Warmest congratulations to Hannah Ledlie (S6 pupil at James Gillespie's) who has been shortlisted for the BBC Young Writers' Award.

This is an amazing achievement. Well done to all who have worked with Hannah and inspired her.
